Maija Kurševa

b. 1981
Latvia
Kurševa develops her work through drawing, printmaking, moving image, sculpture, and installation, often bringing these elements together within a single exhibition. Drawing remains her main starting point: she uses it every day to note ideas, test compositions, and develop works before they take shape in space.
Kurševa’s work often follows the process of making itself — how an idea appears, changes, and becomes a finished artwork. Alongside her own practice, Kurševa teaches composition, riso printing, and screen printing, while also helping to build independent art spaces as founder of the non-profit gallery Low and co-founder of Popper Publishing, an artist collective focused on publications and printed matter.
