Ingrīda Pičukāne

b. 1978

Latvia

Working between comics, drawing, animation, installation, and performance, Pičukāne creates visual narratives where image, movement, and space often merge. Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches animation and comics, extending her interest in sequential storytelling into a shared language of making and looking.

Her comics have appeared in Baltic and international publications, including š! and Stripburger. Drawing on medieval art and continuous narrative, Pičukāne often replaces conventional panel structures with repeated figures moving through a single image. The result is a distinctive sense of time: long, panoramic compositions where landscape is not a backdrop but an active presence.

Her books, including Three Sisters, Zaļais Ceļojums, and Feminae Explorarum, often centre female protagonists, forest imagery, and quietly insistent feminist perspectives.
