Kristi Kangilaski

b. 1982
Estonia
Kangilaski brings together illustration, book and graphic design, children’s book authorship, and painting. Her image-making often begins in the imagination: once a scene is fully formed, she draws it in pencil, scans it, and continues the process digitally. The drawings are cut apart, rearranged, coloured, and rebuilt on screen, creating images that feel both handmade and carefully constructed. She has received numerous awards for books she has written and illustrated, and her work was included in the White Ravens catalogue. In recent projects, including War Is Like..., she has also turned more directly to digital drawing, while keeping the same attention to narrative, texture, and composition.
