Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis

b. 1944

Lithuania

Vilutis is a major figure in Lithuanian graphic art, widely recognised as a pioneer of silkscreen printing in Lithuania. His work carries the sharpness of print culture into images marked by strong silhouettes, contrasting colour, irony, and a distinctly modern visual rhythm.

Moving through prints, posters, book illustration, painting, sculpture, and essays, he has developed a language that feels both graphic and philosophical, often turning humour and self-reflection into visual structure. His work has been exhibited in Lithuania and internationally, including Japan, the United States, France, China, and across Europe. His achievements include the main prize at the Tallinn Graphic Triennial and the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, one of the country’s most important cultural distinctions.
